in the last year, she helped the trucking industry get their portion of regulation deadlines extended because of the current economic situation. But she also said those who want to delay the bill are only looking to please two oil companies that are opposed to greener standards. Another core issue Moors said he has with Torres is that she is a politician who is "totally funded by state union employees," adding that she has helped "hijack" the middle class standard. He would propose legislation that will cause state employees' pay to rise and fall with the economy, like the private sector. "I don't want that representing us because she represents nothing about me or nothing about my community," Moors said. The Chino resident has not sought the endorsement of any state agency but he has received letters of support from several Republican politicians including Sen. The former Pomona mayor also said she spent a lot of time walking every city in her district and meeting her constituents one on one. "One of the more important things is that it has keep me there, on the ground with them," she said. And those meetings have helped her gain insight on their concerns, such as their desire not to raise taxes, she said. Torres said she refused to vote for tax increases, even though it drew her criticism, because she was heeding the concerns of her constituents. "We have to work together," she said. "We have extremes on both sides that don't agree.

ONTARIO One knows what its like to run a city. The other knows what it's like to run a restaurant. Both are hoping their experiences are enough to lead to the state's Assembly's 61st District seat. It's a seat that Assemblywoman Norma Torres, the former mayor of Pomona, wants to keep for a second term, while Ray Moors, owner of Joey's BBQ, wants to take her place on it. Torres, a Democrat, said she will do her best to retain jobs as well as create jobs and revitalize the local economy if re elected. She also plans to work on balancing the state's budget and helping homeowners who are facing foreclosure. "I've had good legislative policies in the last two years built on providing the tools our constituents need to survive in these tough economic times," said Torres, chairwoman of the state's Housing and Community Development Committee. But Moors said Torres is controlled by state union employees and isn't in tune with voters in the communities of Chino, Ontario, Pomona and Montclair. "I want try to do something about all of the ill and misrepresentation," he said. "We're in a battle for the very democracy and well being of California." This is Moors' first venture into politics, but he said he will rely on his 32 years of experience in the restaurant business to help the state lead a balanced budget. Torres said while finger pointing doesn't help solve the problem, she admits that the legislature can't carry the same year to year approach with the budget. "We have to come up with a long term solution to address the issue of balancing our budget and getting our constituents back to work," she said. Work is what drives Moors, the business owner, to express his feelings toward the suspension of AB32, which requires that the state take steps to reduce its carbon emissions to 1990 levels by 2020 and 80 percent below 1990 levels by 2050. The bill, he said, will drive away companies. Instead, he said he would propose legislation that will bring businesses back. Torres said she understands the need to delay portions of AB32.
